The Prophylactic Pilgrim
12th May – 20th June 2014
It has been said of travel: expand your horizons; expand your mind. More people travel than ever before and while information media is ubiquitous, much is based on the dissemination of fear. We are tethered to our homeland: our beliefs; our tastes; our worldview – our baggage.
WeSee Inc.’s 1st Class Traveleze is a response to this notion. The product line offers modern, compact, efficient and fictitious solutions to these perceived concerns and allows for the prophylactic pilgrim to travel at ease.
WeSee Inc. is a Toronto based, two-person art collective (Roy Kohn and Kate Vasyliw), formed in 2006. Their work is themed around belief systems and societal oddities created within the realms of popular media, superstitions, religion and politics. Individually their approaches are divergent. Collectively allowing these differences to interact until there is cohesion. The processes used are varied: each project develops suggesting the media and materials required. This allows for experimentation and often times a learning curve. WeSee Inc. often presents their work in non-traditional venues that are chosen to reflect the practicalities of each project.
Kohn and Vasyliw are co-directors of Roadside Attractions, a window art space located in Toronto, Canada and ongoing since 2007.
